Last evening the hustings were held in our town/village. This morning, the television outside election broadcast for Breakfast Television is in the South West. Can you picture that vivid, triumphal scene? The crowd streaming out of Bethany with Jesus, the crowd pouring out of Jerusalem onto the Mount of Olives, and converging on Jesus – King Jesus.
Jesus consciously chose to ride into Jerusalem; however, not as a warring lord, but as the Prince of Peace; to present himself there in the holy city as the Servant King.

Mothering Sunday. Mothers’ Day. Call it what you may, mums are special. This weeked I have watched a short video again and again in preparation for this special day. But before you watch the video, let me remind you that God created men and women equal. This day is also a reminder that it is in the home (and the family of God) that we acquire a sense of worth and learn respect. Surely this is the significance of God’s command to honour your father and mother.
God created human beings in his own image.
In the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
Tragically, sin as spoilt not only our relationship with God, but also with one another. Jesus came into the world so that through his life given in death we might become friends with God and through that new relationship know a renewing of our relationships with one another.

Recent conversation in Espresoworld has included comversation around the dispute between the computer giant ‘Google’ and the Chinese goverment over the alleged hacking of the email accounts of dissidents. Here in Wiveliscombe life has been busy for this part of Summer Lands (Somerset). In addition to all the preparations for our Easter Celebrations, we had visitors from Bulgaria. Stojan, Zhani and their daughter are from the town of Sliven in south-east Bulgaria, at the foot of the Blue Mountains, about 200 miles east of the capital Sophia. Stojan Slavchevi is the pastor of the Congregational Church in Sliven and Zhani has a God-given gift of song.

Life has been chaotic for many in espresso world with the credit crunch hitting hard. Not only are there empty stores and shops in our High Streets and Shopping Centres, many of us are facing unemployment and house repossession. This is not just limited to the UK or the USA, it is affecting the poor. In fact the poor are hit the hardest.
This is Fairtrade Fortnight and the Global Poverty Prayer Week. I think it was Augustine, an early church leader who said, “Pray as though everything depended on God and work as though everything depended on you.”
